A Friday night in Las Vegas and we thought we would go further south on Las Vegas Blvd. and visit the South Point Hotel & Casino. A lot of people think this is a locals casino which it is but what a GREAT place for tourist and locals alike. South Point has just opened their second tower with an additional 800+ rooms, convention space and all the extras you can think of!
First, we played some of the slot machines and they have them all. The newest games along with old favorites and the casino floor is very easy to manuver around. Well lit and the employees make the casino floor comfortable. Many of the newer casino have taken away the personal touch, South Point makes up for all of that.
Second, we went to see Vicki Lawrence and she was great. I have seen her before and she changes her routine and keeps it funny and fresh. What is great about her show is she also does "Mama" from her show "Mama & Family", she also sings including her song "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia".
The showroom at South Point reminds me of how show rooms in las Vegas use to be with a combination of tables and booths. I don't believe there is a bad seat in the room. There are two full bars and restrooms located IN the showroom. Again, excellent service from the ushers, bartendars and cocktail wait staff. The sound and lights are top quality and I can't wait to go back to see other shows in this room. I rate this room as one of the best in the city to see shows in!
Our last stop of the night was dinner at the SILVERADO STEAK HOUSE inside of the South Point. I cannot say enough about the service in the Silverado or the excellent food! The waiter was very informative about the menu and his attention to detail was incredible. The room is so comfortable with both tables and booths and even when it was busy it is not one of those loud restaurants where you cannot hear yourself. The steaks were cooked as ordered, something alot of expensive restaurants cannot get right. The Silverado is NOT expensive, the dinners come with salad and potatoes and for a Filet the cost is $22.00. They have a vast wine list and the desserts were great I tried both the cheesecake (the kind that sticks to the roof of your mouth) and the creme brulee. I thought i might also mention that Vicki Lawrence was seated at the next table enjoying a late dinner.
The South Point also has an Italian, Mexican, Prime Rib Restaurant, Oyster Bar, Buffet, Cafe and the incredible MICHAEL'S (use to be in the Barbary Coast) on the property along with a few fast food places. There is also the equestrian center, bowling alley, theatre and more!
South Point is clean, safe and was well thought out. I will make that trip more often south on Las Vegas Blvd. even if it's just to try out the restaurants or do a little gambling or see one of the upcoming shows! For more information go to www.southpointcasino.com
